Thai Fun Fact: Phi Ta Khon

In June in some parts of Thailand, people celebrate Phi Ta Khon (Ghost Mask Festival). The origins of this part of the festival are traditionally ascribed to a story of the Vessantara Jataka in which the Buddha, in one of his past lives as a prince, made a long journey and was presumed dead. The celebrations on his return were so raucous they woke the dead who joined in.

Thai massage is a dynamic bodywork therapy based on yoga and Ayurveda. In this unique healing system, the practitioner guides the recipient through a series of yoga postures while massaging along the body’s energy lines and pressure points. Counterbalancing and levering the recipient’s body with his/her own, the practitioner works with gravity, breath, and directed touch to create a harmonious and therapeutic “yoga dance.”
