Éléonore's Ayurvedic Tip

The Importance of Daily Routine According to Ayurveda

Natural cycles that surround us are governed by the different doshas (humors). Thus, Ayurveda separate the different phases of life, the seasons and the times of the day according to these influences. We need to stay in tune with these rhythms to take the most benefits out of them.

Read Éléonore's tips to adapt your routine to your dosha on our blog.

Recipe of the Month

Traditional Lebanese Lemonade

My friend Audrey told me many times about this wonderful family recipe for traditional Lebanese lemonade. I finally got a chance to try it during a heat wave a few summers ago and she was right, this is the best lemonade in the world!

Practical Uses For:

Cypress Essential Oil

It’s summer! The heat and humidity can weigh us down and cause discomfort… But cypress essential oil (Cupressus sempervirens) can help with that!

In addition to its numerous immune and respiratory benefits, this oil tonifies the veins and stimulates the lymphatic system. Do you have heavy legs, edema, or varicose veins? Dissolve 1 teaspoon of evergreen cypress essential oil in 50 ml Calendula oil (or other carrier oil) and massage your legs upwards from the ankles to the groin.

Do you are sweating excessively? Use 1 drop of essential oil in a cream or oil and apply it to the underarms one or  two times a day.

Karma and Balance

I was determined to eat healthy as I arrived in New York City last week. It started out fine... really! My intentions were good but my "will" was sabotaged by my friend Renee. "Let’s go have some cheesecake" she said. My inner voice said NO but my outer voice said something different. As we sat at a neighbourhood restaurant downing what must have been our forth forkful of cheesecake, I was wondering who the boss of me was and if we could order another piece.

At Kripalu we both agreed to curb our appetites. Maybe do a Journey Dance or two. Someone invited us to hang out in town but Renee and I were both exhausted from travelling and eating our way from New York to Massachusetts. Who wants to go out in the rain anyway? "What? Did you say a glass of wine and fries?" 15 minutes later there we were, stuffing our faces with the best tasting French fries this side of heaven! How the heck did my outer voice get the best of me again?!

I keep reminding myself that I can have balance in my life even if I do give into my cravings. “Good Karma is conscious choices we make that results in being fulfilled, rewarded or happy.”

I made the choice to spend my time with good friends, over delicious food and laughing over funny stories. As the second glass of wine was being poured, I was loving my outer voice... ("in moderation" my inner voice chimed!)

Did you know...

Colour perception depends on the number of cone cells in the retina of the eye?
While most people have 3 types of cones and can see around one million colours; very few have 4 cones (Tetrachomacy) allowing them to perceive a hundred million colours. Different types of colour blindness are caused by 1 or more anomalous cone cells.
