Balancing Act

I am often reminded that balancing life and work is not always easy. Everyone's perspective of balance is different and what works for one person doesn't for another.

While we can't anticipate and plan for everything in our lives, we can decide where to concentrate our energy. The challenge is to balance what we must do with what we enjoy and choose to do. The goal is to reduce stress and manage a well-balanced life where we are content emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Expect the unexpected. Be positive and stay in the moment. Set priorities and be good to yourself.

Sometimes things just happen. Are we able to step back and just roll with the punches? Learn how to deal with adversity, unforeseen events and uncertainty. Sometimes acknowledging that things are just not in our control can change our state of mind. Recognize that once you have done everything you can, you need to step back and let things unfold.

Knowing what is really important in your life can help you focus. Making a list of what these are can help motivate you to achieve goals. It is empowering to know you have choices.

You cannot accomplish anything if you're unhealthy. Being good to yourself might be easier said than done if we are burning the candle at both ends. Eating properly, getting enough exercise and setting some time for ourselves is vital to maintain balance. We don't want to get to the point where we burnout.

Get plenty of rest and find something you like to do!
