Shelley’s Journey

Lotus Palm is like a home away from home, a place of grounding, comfort, authenticity and lightness. My journey to Thai yoga massage at Lotus Palm has been an enlightening and transformative one. For many years, I was primarily a stay-at-home mom. I left the corporate world to raise my children, help in the care of my ailing father and work part-time as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. After being a yoga student for several years, I decided to deepen my practice by taking yoga teacher training. While studying for my 500-hour yoga therapy/teacher training, I was introduced to Thai yoga massage by a friend who recommended that I further my studies and training at Lotus Palm. I decided to venture out and enroll in level one to try my hands at this new modality. I have to admit, that before it started, I was quite intimidated by the techniques that I would have to learn. However, my fears were quickly put to rest with Sukha's encouragement, kindness, humour and insightful teaching skills. Her knowledgeable, genuine and down-to-earth approach to sharing this unique style of Thai yoga massage is unsurpassed.

Although I had originally anticipated completing only level 1, this profound experience increased my appetite to learn more. I have completed level 4 and other specialty courses, and also plan to become certified in levels 5 and 6. The additional courses have not only increased my repertoire of skills with a deeper knowledge of healing through Ayurveda, but it has also given me more confidence and credibility as a practitioner. Both giving and receiving Thai yoga massage has made me realize how essential and beneficial it is to our health and well-being. Along with my friends, family and clients, I also have been captivated not only by the Thai yoga movements and massage but also by the spiritual energy of meditation and Metta (loving kindness) that is infused into this practice.

I am deeply thankful to Sukha and her incredible "family" of teachers for sharing their knowledge and for inspiring me. And, when I say "family," this is the kind of warmth, rapport, and community that Sukha has created and stands by at Lotus Palm. Lotus Palm embodies loving kindness and is a place of tranquility for anyone who goes there.
