Metta River follows the belief
that yoga should be regarded as
therapy – a healing art. Metta
is the practice of loving-kindness,
as taught by the Buddha. The courses
are led by Minga Lily and Shawn
Patrick. Minga Lily was born and
raised in Thailand and began meditation
practices at the age of eight. Shawn
Patrick teaches Muay Thai kickboxing
and is certified by Lotus Palm as
a Thai massage practitioner and
trainer. Both Minga and Shawn practice
a variety of healing therapies and
strive to pass on their knowledge
to their pupils.
Classes & Workshops
Here are some of the many courses
Metta River offers:
-Yoga Therapy
This class provides step-by-step
instructions leading to the healing
journey of yoga. The first step
to yoga therapy is establishing
the physical and mental health of
a student, followed by determining
what style of yoga is best, based
on interest and overall well-being.
-Thai Yoga Massage
Drawing upon ancient Buddhist
practices, Thai Yoga massage teaches
how to improve pain and/or illnesses
through pressure points and various
yoga poses. Both the giver and the
receiver benefit from this type
of massage. See the Lotus Palm course
calendar for details on Thai
massage training at the Metta
River center and elsewhere.
-Muay Thai Kickboxing
The time-honored art of
Thai self-defense is still used
among current-day military elite.
Muay Thai kickboxing is generally
practiced in the ring, but those
looking for a more casual experience
can join Metta River on Saturday
mornings in a Glen Alla park.
-Partners Yoga
This class brings two
people together to enjoy yoga as
one. Poses are adapted to accommodate
two, creating a sense of trust and
closeness between partners.
For details please see the Metta
River website.
