Integral Yoga Institute practices
Hatha style yoga and boasts a community-driven
environment. The institute is located
in the heart of New York City, and
has been open for over forty years.
Classes
IYI offers a huge variety of classes,
at all hours of the day, in order
to appease its students’ schedules.
Postpartum and H.I.V. Hatha are
among some of the more unique classes
available, while some sessions are
free of charge and open to the public.
Please see a complete IYI
class schedule including detailed
descriptions, or see the Lotus
Palm calendar for Thai Massage
classes.
Workshops & Events
The IYI community not only promotes
yoga as a way of life, but also
holds workshops that range from
vegetarian cooking to Hebrew chanting
classes. All events are driven by
mental and physical well-being,
and are taught by experienced instructors.
Integrating yoga at work
& school
IYI proposes combining yoga with
both professional and educational
settings. Employers can hire teachers
who will visit the workplace to
demonstrate yoga techniques to staff,
while teachers can do the same for
their students. The goals include
improving focus, learning breathing
techniques, and learning relaxation
techniques.
Kirtans
Kirtans are ancient hymns sung
in Sanskrit, the classical language
of India. By repeating mantras with
focus and concentration, “the
heart is opened and the body and
mind purified”. An assortment
of kirtan courses are available,
including one held every Friday
night where IYI hopes to teach students
how to be closer to God, through
the help of instruments and poetry.
Bookstore
Located within the Institute is
a quaint bookstore with a wide variety
of yoga paraphernalia to rifle through.
Besides books on healthy eating,
the bookstore also sells yoga supplies,
DVD’s and relaxing music CD’s;
a great place to further your yoga
education.
Just click on the IYI
website, to learn about their
many activities, from teaching classes
to how to practice yoga at work.
