Life Skills Programs
Introduction to Thai Yoga Massage
(3 hour workshop)
Prerequisites: None
In this 3-hour course, students are introduced to the practice of Thai Yoga Massage. Through demonstration and hands-on practice one learns a fundamental 20-minute form and gains first hand experience in both giving and receiving a Thai Yoga Massage.
This is an invaluable introduction for those wishing to learn more or begin studying with Lotus Palm.
Couples Thai Yoga Massage
(6 hour workshop)
Prerequisites: None
In this 6-hour workshop you will learn new ways to give nurturing intentional touch to your partner through Thai Yoga Massage. Our hands-on course will provide you and your partner with the knowledge to:
- Perform a 30 minute full-body, smooth, flowing and safe Thai Yoga Massage
- Utilize intentional touch and awareness to create a mutually beneficial experience
- Integrate "Metta" (compassion) and meditation into the massage
We will incorporate demonstrations with instruction and practice time with a healthy mix of humour to ensure you feel comfortable and confident to begin practicing right away.
Thai Yoga Massage Foundations
(12 hour workshop)
Prerequisites: None
In this workshop you will learn a full 1-hour massage sequence that incorporates all of the essential practices of Thai Yoga Massage, including:
- Lotus Palm's Four Basics: awareness, body mechanics, movement, and massage techniques (using hands & feet).
- Effortless transitions between postures.
- Creating a mutually beneficial experience between the giver and receiver.
- Integrating "Metta" (loving kindness) and meditation into your massage.
Introduction to Swedish Massage
(15 hours + documented practice)
The most popular massage in North America, Swedish massage aims to promote general health and relaxation. The maneuvers are practiced on a table and encourage improved circulation, stress reduction, detoxification and relief for tired muscles.
You learn a 60 minute massage which includes:
- Core massage techniques: effleurage, foulage, petrissage, drainage and percussions.
- The proper use of oil.
- Draping techniques.
- Safety and basic contraindications.
Healthy Eating
(4 hour workshop)
Prerequisites: None
Do you feel as if there is so much information about food out there that you don't know what to make of it? Wouldn't it be great to just understand the basics? Spend an evening making sense of it all by:
- Learning about the importance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, as well as what they each do in the body
- Having an overview of vitamins and minerals
- Understanding dieting and fasting
- Acquiring better eating habits for a healthier life!
Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner Program
Essential Certification
Thai Yoga Massage 1
(40 hrs)
This Level 1 course teaches you a complete 90-minute massage, focusing on:
- The four foundations of Thai yoga massage (awareness, body mechanics, movement, and massage techniques using hands, knees, feet, and elbows)
- Effortless transitions between postures
- An introduction to contraindications and safety
- Care for the client and therapist before, during, and after the massage
- Massage for shoulders, head, back, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and feet.
Thai Yoga Massage 2
(40 hrs)
Prerequisite: Thai Yoga Massage 1
Beginning with a complete review of all techniques taught in Level I, you learn:
- 90 additional minutes of massage techniques, including side-lying postures
- Expanded Thai energy lines
- How to customize massages to accommodate common ailments and people of different sizes and flexibilities.
Intermediate Certification
Thai Yoga Massage 3
(40 hrs)
Prerequisites: Thai Yoga Massage 1 and 2
This course introduces you to the fundamentals of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian healing system and sister science to yoga. This course bridges Thai Yoga Massage with its historical roots in Ayurveda and students learn practical methods of applying Ayurvedic knowledge to deepen the therapeutic quality of their practice.
This course teaches you a new 60 minute Thai Yoga Massage and how to customize according to a person's body-type (vata, pitta, or kapha). Furthermore you will learn:
- To determine an individual's Ayurvedic constitution
- How to bring energy movement into Thai Yoga Massage
- How to create a customized 2-session Thai Yoga Massage wellness program according to a person's body-type
- The fundamental concepts of Ayurveda history, philosophy and healing
- To incorporate use of knees as a massage technique
Thai Yoga Massage 4
(40 hrs)
Prerequisites: Thai Yoga Massage 1 through 3
Beginning with a complete review of theory and techniques learned in level 3, you learn:
- How to perform a 90 minute Thai Yoga Massage according to a person's body-type
- How to identify and massage 18 marma points (vital energy points) & their healing properties
- Prevention and therapeutic relief for common ailments for each dosha
- Adding essential oils to your massage
- How to create a 4-session Thai Yoga Massage wellness program that takes into account nutritional, lifestyle and yoga recommendations according to a person's body-type.
Advanced Certification
Thai Yoga Massage 5
(40 hrs)
Prerequisites: Thai Yoga Massage 1 through 4
This course teaches you all 10 energy lines (the sip sen) and how to incorporate them into a powerful Thai Yoga Massage. The energy lines are the traditional theory of the massage. You will learn the detailed running of the lines, their properties and how to use them in the massage. You will also bring together a working knowledge of Thai 1-4 postures in order to effectively customize the massage for all types of clients, while adding 30 new postures to your practice.
After completing the class, you will be able to:
- Understand and apply treatments with sen lines
- Incorporate 30 new techniques to your practice
- Expand the side-lying massage
- Customize massages for harder to treat clients, including:
- Clients who require more pressure
- Clients who are more flexible
- Clients who can only receive massage in side-lying position
- How to massage using your feet
Thai Yoga Massage 6
(40 hrs)
Prerequisites: Thai Yoga Massage 1 through 5
This course binds together all you have learned in levels 1 through 5 in order to create effective Thai yoga therapy. You will use ayurvedic principles, marma points, sen lines and your own intuition to explore case studies, develop work plans and harness the great potential of this incredible restorative practice. Thai Yoga Massage is received by more than 60 million Thai people as a method to prevent sickness, and to take care of a multitude of physical and psychological ailments.
Furthermore, you will learn:
- ‘‘The form of formlessness” to allow the massage to be a complete expression of the present moment
- 30 new techniques
- How to carry out Thai Yoga Massage pathology sessions for:
- Back pain
- Chronic shoulder pain and neck stiffness
- Stress relief
- Tired arms and hands
Thai Yoga Massage Internship Program
Prerequisites: Thai Yoga Massage 1
The internship will help students to give Thai Yoga Massage
in a professional setting with confidence and awareness. Monitored massages and
feedback will provide support by:
- Helping to perfect the student's technique
- Exploring variations in treatment plans
- Observing how students interact in a professional setting
- Assessing, listening and communicating
Internship sessions are as follows:
- Every Tuesday, 6pm - 8pm or periodic full days (see calendar link below)
- Students must bring a partner to practice on; the partner will pay a fee of $23 (cash only, taxes included).

Swedish Massage Therapist Certification
Professional Swedish Massage
(150 hrs)
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered type of massage in Quebec and North America making it an essential skill for all massage therapists. It uses a multitude of techniques and a massage approach that promotes firm but gentle pressure in order to ease pain and discomfort from muscle aches and tension, improve circulation, reduce injury recovery time and promote relaxation.
The therapist generally uses massage oil and it is done with the person covered by a sheet.
Swedish massage is the foundation for many types of Western massage, including sports and deep tissue.
Upon completing this program you will:
- Be able to create customized 60 and 90 minute massage that attend to the back, head, legs, arms and hands
- Master a multitude of massage techniques for each part of the body including effleurage, petrissage, friction, pinpoint pressure, brushing, skin rolling and percussions
- Practice with optimum body awareness that emphasize your safety and health

The internship will help students to give Swedish Massage in a professional setting with confidence and awareness. Monitored massages and feedback will provide support by:

The following courses are required to complete the Thai Yoga Massage Therapist Program and the Swedish Massage Therapist Program. These courses are also open to students of all levels.
Human Anatomy
Prerequisites: None
This course invites students to expand their knowledge of human anatomy and follows the curriculum standards
set by the FQM (Fédération québecoise des massothérapeutes). Students will develop the ability to utilize
vocabulary and understand:
- Boney structures of the body
- Key muscles and articulations
Human Physiology & Pathology
Prerequisites: None
This course invites students to deepen their knowledge of human pathology
and physiology and follows the curriculum standards set by the FQM. Students
will develop the ability to utilize vocabulary and understand:
- The functions of each system of the body
- Major diseases that can affect the human body
- The role and application of massage to help
in promoting health, rehabilitation and prevention
Helping Relations and Interviewing Techniques
Prerequisites: None
The objective of this course is to provide students with the know-how to use massage
to better respond to the needs of clients. You will learn how to:
- Create the supportive space in order to help clients relax and achieve optimal wellness
- Assist clients if emotions are triggered
- Practice interview and questioning techniques for effective communication with clients
- Raise awareness of personal and professional boundaries in the massage profession
Sexuality and Professional Practice
Prerequisites: None
This course allows students to consider sexuality in their practice and come face to face
with how to handle situations of a sexual nature that may arise in their profession. Topics addressed include:
- Better understanding of one's personal perception of sexuality and how to identify personal boundaries
- Knowledge of concepts linked to the potential reactions to emotional, erotic and sexual nature of clients
- How to intervene in a professional manner that bridges ethics and sexuality
Professional Issues (Ethics)
Prerequisites: None
This course helps to prepare students with the reality of working within the professional domain
of massage therapy. It helps students to refine their professional identity in order to practice
safely and with great care as well as interact with colleagues in related fields.
Students learn:
- The role of massage within society and how it can be used to help clients
- The application of massage in relation to other modalities within the realm of health and wellness
- The ethics code as set forth by the FQM for a safe and principled practice
- The rules and applicable laws and how it applies to massage therapists
Table Thai Yoga Massage Certification
Table Thai Yoga Massage 1
(40 hours)
Prerequisites: 60 hours of massage training in any modality
Thai Yoga Massage on a table expands your business to a whole new world of clientele while helping to take even better care of your body. It brings the incredible benefits of Thai Yoga Massage including customized yoga, profound relaxation and energy work to the comforts of a massage table.
Performed on a low table, fully clothed you will reach out to a mainstream audience, including athletes, elderly and people who prefer massage on a table.
Therapists used to traditional table massage will reduce injuries to hands and wrists by learning to use elbows, forearms, feet and other parts of their body.
Those used to Thai on a mat will save your knees and massage in greater comfort.
After completing the class you will be able to:

- Apply Thai Foot Reflexology and techniques to avoid using thumbs
- Practice principles of body alignment specifically adapted for massaging on and around the massage table

Performed on a low table, fully clothed you will reach out to a mainstream audience, including athletes, elderly and people who prefer massage on a table.
Therapists used to traditional table massage will learn to massage using your whole body and reduce injuries to hands and wrists.
Those used to Thai on a mat will save your knees and massage in greater comfort.

Prenatal Thai Yoga Massage
(22.5 hours + documented practice)
Thai Yoga Massage is especially well suited for women seeking relief from the natural stresses of adapting physically, mentally and emotionally to pregnancy. Designed with the goal of relieving stress and promoting wellness and balance, this program addresses many common needs affecting pregnant women, including relief from the discomforts of pregnancy with a focus on trimester changes. This 3-day program will prepare you to confidently provide a caring, safe, relaxing and nurturing session.
You will gain the knowledge and confidence to:
- Complete a 60-minute Prenatal Thai Yoga Massage
- Understand the unique needs of childbearing women and the contraindications for massage and for specific postures
- Address common ailments and discomforts of pregnancy, while facilitating preparation for birth with breath work
- Incorporate compassion, mindfulness and meditation into your massage
